In book Dealing with anxiety written by Nydegger, he introduced that social phobia “produces undue embarrassment and anxiety in social situation and is extreme enough to impair normal social functional”. I found this extremely relatable and I want to visualize the anxiety I am experiencing through jewellery.
The brooch is made by sterling silver and seven layers of plastic. To represent the different levels of anxiety, I chose different colours of plastics, from shinning, clear, light blue, blue to deep blue. The colors are getting more intense, and the shapes of each form move from soft to sharper edges. When all layers build us, it looks like a flower. Each plastic piece attaches by a magnet. Wearers can wear them with all the layers or they can have their own combinations of which layers they want to wear. The wearer has the control over how they present their anxiety.
Both colours and shapes symbolized my feelings from external to internal while having anxiety. I decided to make it into a brooch because you can wear it near to your heart. This symbolizes that the piece is referring to internal feelings.
