Feeling lonely or being in an unsecure relationship could lead one, especially women to depression. Love is complicated, and no one has the answer of how to deal with it. I feel the relationship is like a cage, and I’m trap in it like a prisoner. I wanted to express that feeling through jewellery pieces.
In Chinese fairytales, there’s a story about relationships, where a god named Yue Lao, controls all the love relationships in heaven. He knots an invisible red string on everyone’s pinky fingers, and the other end of the strings connects to your soulmate’s pinky fingers. Thus, I decided to use red threads to represent love.
The ring is in a cube form, and it represents the love cage. Wrapping the red threads through the cage, and the mess of the threads represents the complications of love. The red thread also represents all the experiences people have during a relationship including happiness, being loved, pains and depress. When wearer wears the ring, the finger would have the feeling of being stuck in the ring. It represents the feelings of being a prisoner in the love cage.
The shoulder brooch is also in the cube form and wrapped with red threads to represents the love cage. However, there are two red threads coming out of the jail to connect with two pinky rings. It is a metaphor that there is hope of being loved and finding your soul mate in the end. Everyone should have a little hope within himself or herself, and that is one little way to cope with mental health as well.
